Managing Projects / Deleting Projects

Deleting Projects

Deleting a project is a permanent action that removes all associated data. This operation cannot be undone.

Before You Delete

Important: Deleting a project will permanently remove:

  • All versions and version-specific configurations
  • All sources and source references
  • All observations extracted from sources
  • Generated documentation
  • Chat history
  • Elasticsearch data
  • Custom domain configurations
  • Integration settings (Slack, Discord, MCP)

Billing Note: Message overage charges for the current billing period will still apply, even after project deletion.

How to Delete a Project

  1. Navigate to your Project Overview
  2. Scroll to the Danger Zone section at the bottom of the page:

  1. Click the Delete Project button
  2. Confirm the deletion in the prompt that appears

What Happens After Deletion

  • The project is immediately removed from your Projects dashboard
  • All associated resources are queued for permanent deletion
  • If you had a custom domain configured, it will no longer resolve to your documentation
  • Embedded chat widgets will stop functioning
  • Slack/Discord integrations will be disconnected

Alternative: Archiving or Pausing

If you're unsure about permanent deletion, consider:

  • Removing sources instead of deleting the entire project—this stops chat responses without losing your configuration
  • Unpublishing versions to take documentation offline temporarily
  • Disconnecting integrations to pause Slack/Discord bots while keeping the project intact

There is currently no built-in "archive" feature, but manually removing sources achieves a similar result.

Recovering a Deleted Project

Project deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. There is no recovery or restoration process.

If you accidentally delete a project:

  1. You will need to create a new project from scratch
  2. Re-add all sources
  3. Reconfigure settings, integrations, and custom domains
  4. Documentation will need to be regenerated
