Vestibules

Vestibules must provide adequate maneuvering space for wheelchair users to navigate between door sets. The document includes detailed technical diagrams illustrating compliant vestibule configurations.

Door in Series Configuration

Layout: Doors swing in same direction

Requirement Specification
Clearance between doors 48" min.

This configuration provides maneuvering space for wheelchair users when doors are aligned in sequence.

Both Doors Open Out (Serving Other Than a Required Exit Stairway)

Layout: Both doors open outward

Requirement Specification
Clearance 48" min.

Note: This configuration serves areas other than required exit stairways and provides additional space when door is equipped with both a latch and a closer.

Doors at Adjacent Walls

Layout: Doors positioned at 90-degree angle

Requirement Specification
Clearance 48" min.

This configuration allows wheelchair turning radius at corner vestibules.

Doors at Opposite Walls

Layout: Doors face each other

Requirement Specification
Clearance between doors 48" min.

This configuration provides straight-through passage for wheelchair users.
